Using hydraulics to control pitch
The pitch system is a vital part of the modern wind turbine, constantly fine-tuning the angle of the blades to the wind to optimise the wind turbine’s energy production and minimize the loads on the turbine.
A hydraulic pitch system from AVN Energy acts as a main brake in freak weather conditions or extreme wind speeds, helping minimise the risk of structural failure and accidents. We work closely with you to develop quality hydraulic pitch systems you can trust.
Pitch systems usually fulfil three functions:
• Control of the pitch angle
Adjusting the pitch changes the speed of the blades and the amount of energy the turbine produces. The quicker you can move the blades, the easier it becomes to keep high-load peaks away from the drive-train and main turbine.
• The fail-safe function
Failure to respond quickly in severe weather conditions can overload the turbine’s structure and foundation. Our pitch systems can turn the blades out of the wind under any operating conditions and in any fail-safe mode.
• Feedback on blade position
Instant detailed feedback on the blades’ position gives you a wide range of control strategies to work with – and even enables you to carry out individual cyclic pitches.
