Control of Cooling Unit

It is important to keep the inlet temperature of the cooling water constant in all operating conditions in order to reduce the thermal stress on the electrical components in the power converter of a wind turbine.

AVN Energy has developed a patented flow valve for mixing hot and cold cooling water in order the keep the water at the right temperatur. This valve is controlled by a controller witha an integrated PI-step regulator, which makes it possible to determine how often and for how long the valve actuator is active.

As seen on the figure, the AVN Energy regulating valve in combination with the PI-step regulator is capable of keeping a very narrow temperature band even with limited activations (fatigue loads) at quite large fluctuations on the power input.
